I think the future of girls with humongous, over-emphasised cute eyes will become increasingly something with substance.

The cute artstyle with a more developed character and plot. Sora no Woto was an attempt to move towards a more interesting setting. And while in the long run I think it failed because it was too short and the elements really clashed too much (music and military).

As for the cliched characters in K-On, at least from my belief it was for the sake of humour through using cliched interractions and the same jokes. Although oddly enough, while it is overdone it quite a few places (idiot and smart girl punishing- Mio and Ritsu) somehow it makes me laugh so in that sense K-on did it's job. So praise be to them.

Don’t worry, there’s more to come. I find myself more and more sick of the average otaku as the days go by. Something about selling doujinshi at cons does that to you.

You have my sympathies. I've seen more than one anime / manga depict the average otaku at doujinshi cons. Somehow I doubt they're exaggerating.

@TIF: Don't worry, there's more to come. I find myself more and more sick of the average otaku as the days go by. Something about selling doujinshi at cons does that to you.

@Sorrow-Kun: Indeed, it's very simple for companies to simply slap moe onto anything and call it a day. I do think moe will die, simply because its losing its flavor-of-the-month status. Also, "BANANA BANANA, BANANA BANANA, BANANA BANANA DE BA-NA-NA~!"

@omo: I respectfully disagree with you. Good artists, whether they be character designers or animators, are pretty easy to find. Think about every well-known doujin or professional artist you know. Now see if you can name me that many good scriptwriters.

@Hamsterling: Yeah, I do have a problem with the bloggers, its just that I would be labeled with hypocrisy if I talked about them. While I do think that hypocrisy is nothing more than a really, really amateur ad hom attack, it still decreases my rhetorical validity somewhat.

@AC: Thanks for the positive feedback. You guys can't fathom what would disrupt the moe loop, but I think I can; all that needs to happen is for people to finally be fed up with it. And I think we're reaching that point. Or, at least, moe is changing.

@jpmeyer: Like I said, not in the business of watching bad anime. Thank God.

@KX: I don't think VIPpers will remain complacent while everyone kills substance for style. I'm pretty sure that, at some point, they'll start disapproving.

And now you need to talk about the bloggers themselves.

Oh I wouldn't stop there. I'd whip out my penis and smack the collective face of 4chan with it, followed by AnimeSuki's forums, then Brian "Hey, Answerman!" Hanson from Anime News Network. Does Anime Academy even exist anymore? No, I wouldn't pull out any hard feelings (I have none, I did it to myself over there), but I recall a few of the more faggoty forum members needing a cocksandwich.

If I'm going to piss off the fanbase, I'm going to piss them ALL off.

No Eiken how 'bout you?

Fun article. Though it kind of makes me wonder what this decade will be remembered for in 2019.

Regarding moe, while its saturation is likely to persist into the next decade, it's probably going to become more and more ignorable, that is unless someone ventures in an exercise in excess, and that would probably just lead to a new sub genre for exploitation anime. It only takes so many Saws for them to simply exist. So how many K-Ons does there need to be before people stop caring, albeit while still watching?

Great article, Akira. Gotta love the brilliant shots and the delivery written here, I laughed a lot (in a positive way). Also, I find it particularly amazing how you actually put up with the all the rubbish listed up there. I wouldn't even go beyond 3 episodes of the crap, for obvious reasons. I have a few things to say about those listed:

8. K-On!
Nothing happens. NOTHING. And it's hard to believe that there are so many fans of a show where nothing happens.

6. Akikan!
Like how I reviewed it, I hate the fact how it doesn't have any fanservice for such a series, although I'm not sure if that would necessarily make it any better.

As for the moe movement, I agree with SK. It's not going to go away, since there's still a high demand for it. It's like you said: it's a positive feedback loop, so if it were to stop, it must be because of an unprecedented disruptive factor to the cycle (can't even think of what that may be).

Everyone's gateway anime should be Overman King Gainer, everything Macross, GaoGaiGar, Gurren Lagann and then G Gundam.

And then we move on to everything else.

K-ON: All you need to know is that everyone faps to Mio.

And now you need to talk about the bloggers themselves.
