The Nihon Revue, Episode Five

Wow. What started as an experiment (on a bit of whim, honestly) has now lasted a year and turned into one of our seasonal staples. Welcome to the fifth episode of The Nihon Revue, and the show’s twelve month milestone. Kylaran has climbed on board for this episode, both to talk about the shows that finished this season and to share his experiences at last week’s Anime Expo. Here are the five series we’ve turned the blow-torch on today (moderate spoilers for everything except A-Channel, which is pretty much impossible to spoil anyway):

0:59 Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai

5:56 Puella Magi Madoka Magica

12:00 C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control

15:21 A-Channel

19:19 Dog Days

24:14 Kylaran at Anime Expo

Agree? Disagree? What’s your opinion? This episode runs for 27:45 in total, and you can listen to it just below.

  1. Anohana! Very nice anime yeah some things were a bit strange, nice rating thou I probably would give it 7 or 8 out of 10 as well.

LOL Kylaran yeah that’s pretty much the way Madoka was created I bet. I liked the crazy ass witch themed worlds, I didn’t like it at first but slowly got used to the crazy style. I was the same about the characters a few of them we could predict really easily how things would go.

C- Decent anime the first few episodes where strange to me, things got really fun near the end sadly. Ah yes the fights! So much like a scene from Dragonball Z and Yugioh! Mysu was the only reason I was really watching. Last episode was meh it did feel like something was missing.

Wow Ax sounded like a lot of fun, I don’t really get to go to any of those T__T but it did sound like you had a fun time!

  2. @S-K This is just my opinion, but could it be possible if you turned the volume of the previews of each shows down by a bit? It’s not a major issue or anything, but I find the differences in the volumes to be startling at times. The volume from the first episode of TWA was perfectly fine, but the actual podcast in the Nihon Revue seems to be much softer compared to the previews.

Anyways, I still enjoyed the episode (as always), and I’ll be looking forward to another Threesome Three-Way Action for this Summer. :V

Yeah, I bet Anime Expo would have been a crapload of fun. That seems to be the general consensus. Kylaran and I seemed to disagree so much about Madoka, so I was taken aback when our ratings only differed by one. We actually talked quite a bit longer about Madoka, but I unfortunately had to cut out much of our discussion because the podcast would have run for way too long if I didn’t.

Suggestion noted. Kylaran said the same thing and I agree. That was a mistake on my part. I’ll definitely be more careful with future episodes. At first I was thinking that I wouldn’t fix it for this episode, but seeing as there’s a fairly high demand for it, I think I might have to release a v2.

As for Three Way Action, I have no idea what Akira’s got planned for it. I have a feeling that it’s going to surprise me just as much as it will surprise you. 😛

  4. Akira has already stated that one Three Way Action episode will be done with all of us drunk.

Personally I’m looking forward to hearing Sorrow-kun slur badly and giggle at stupid jokes.

  5. @TIF I would also like to see this become a reality.

I like to bash on Madoka’s faults not because it’s a bad show, but largely because it could’ve been a really really really damn good show if it hadn’t been for some of the things I thought brought it down. A lot of it’s more out of frustration at seeing such good material go to waste (cause, as much as I like to make fun of its concept, it had a lot of potential).
